National Trust – Kingston Lacy Botanical Surveys

National Trust – North Dorset Ecology Volunteer Group

A new group is establishing to carry out monitoring and surveys at a range of amazing sites in North Dorset from Hod Hill and Hambledon hillforts, to chalk grassland of Fontmell and Melbury Down and woodlands too. This year’s work will include surveys in Melbury Wood and recently acquired site Clubmans Down. The group will complement the well-established West Dorset Ecology Volunteer group and focus on the many NT North Dorset biodiversity rich land holdings. National Trust – West Dorset Ecology Volunteer Group

Meeting weekly on Tuesdays, this group survey a range of sites from woodlands to seashore, – a range of a habitats including heathland, acid and chalk grassland, lowland meadow and aquatic environments. As well as plant surveys, there is bat monitoring and newt recording. Area is from Ware, near Lyme Regis to Ringstead with most surveys on the Golden Cap Estate.  Highlights include annual counts of Green Winged Orchids and Autumn Ladies Tresses orchids on the Golden Cap estate and also running public engagement events such as moth trapping and orchid guided walks. Surveys may be a half day or full day depending on size of sites.
