The Grasshoppers, Bush-crickets and Allies of Dorset
Bryan Edwards

Published by Dorset EnenvironmentalRecords Centre 2011
With its southerly position on the English Channel and relatively warm and sunny climate, Dorset is one of the richest areas in Britain for Orthptera. All but three members of the British Orthoptera fauna can be found in the county.
This book covers the grasshoppers, bush-crickets, groundhoppers, cockroaches and earwigs that are resident, or have been recorded as vagrants in Dorset. It includes the vice-county of Dorset (VC9) plus those parts of VC11 (South Hampshire), that are now found in the administrative county of Dorset.
The book includes information on the climate, geology and topography of Dorset and descriptions of habitats and sites for Orthoptrera. There is information on the structure and life history, variations and adaptations of Orthoptera, and a history of recording. The book contains a key to Dorset Species, species accounts with distribution maps and beautiful colour plates, there is information on extinct and introduced vagrant species, an account of the fossil record for Orthoptera in Dorset and information on conservation.

M. O. Hill and B. Edwards

Published by Dorset Environmental Records Centre 2003
This is the first account devoted solely to the mosses and liverworts of Dorset for over 120 years. Since 1880, when H. H. Wood, rector of Holwell, published ’Mosses of Dorsetshire’.
This book describes the history of recording the many different habitats present in Dorset and the current state of Dorset bryophyte flora. There are distribution maps for all species found in more than one locality. The book is intended both for the general naturalist and for the experienced bryologist.
