During the past fifteen years DERC has been working on a series of grassland inventories for the county. Much of this work has been carried out through the Sites of Nature Conservation Interest project and based on Phase 1 information gathered in the field.

All inventories are under continual review and should not be used in isolation, they are a statement of our best knowledge at that time.

Inventories have been completed for:

  • Chalk Grassland (Edwards, 1998)
  • Limestone Grassland (Edwards, 2000)
  • Neutral grassland (Edwards, 2002)
  • Acid grassland (Edwards, 2002)

During 2000 DERC updated the Provisional Dorset Atlas (NCC 1988) using recent survey work and aerial photographs. General information about the Ancient Woodland Inventory is available from Natural England. The DERC data set supersedes the data currently available from the Natural England web-site but please note this inventory remains provisional. Further amendments have been made during 2003.
